Goalkeepers may very well be the most versatile and sometimes most athletic players on any given team. As the last line of defense they are responsible for keeping opposing teams off the scoreboard. Unfortunately despite their importance, keepers are often neglected when it comes to team training sessions, especially on the youth level. Well that is where GOALSTOPPER ACADEMY comes in.

  • Let Goalstopper give you the training you need to succeed.
  • Coaches, lets us come to your workouts and train your goalkeepers while you and your assistants work on other aspects of your teams development.
  • We will also work with your keepers away from their regular practice sessions to ensure overall development.

Goalstopper academy has trained hundreds of goalkeepers from youth to college level and has done so by teaching  the time tested, "Ten Guiding Principles of Goalkeeping". With these principles in place, players are able to put themselves in better position to make more saves. If a keeper is more aware of his/her surroundings on the field and what their role inside the 18 their success rate will be greatly improved.

The biggest satisfaction we get here at Goalstopper Academy is watching the maturation of a player. In other words, to see one of our students actually implement what we have taught them and then continue to improve on their abilities.  My only regret with former Radnor High School Varsity keeper Kyle Furtaw is that we did not start training earlier.

Kyle, a three sport varsity athlete-soccer, basketball, baseball-has great athletic and physical abilities, 6' 3" 180 pounds. By the end of his senior season, Kyle had not only helped back stop his team to the district play-offs, but earned second team all Central League-a 12 team conference, second team all County and second team All-Mainline.

"Coach Phil's daily presence during both practices and games made a noticeable difference in the goal keeping ability of my son.  Kyle had been a field player for most of his soccer career but was converted to a keeper at the end of his sophomore year.  Although he was athletic, he lacked the mindset of a goalie.  Kyle benefited from the training and personal interaction with Phil who taught him position specific lessons he would not have learned elsewhere.  I believe Phil's daily involvement with my son during his senior year transformed him from an above average keeper to one who has become worthy of all-league honors.  Furthermore, Phil continues to be an advocate of Kyle as he pursues his dream of playing soccer in college".

One of our favorite success stories was a young man by the name of B.J. Merriam, a former high school baseball player in South Jersey who decided to switch sports and give soccer a try. fortunately for us, his position of choice, Goalkeeper.

As a former baseball player, B.J. already had many of characteristics needed to be a good goalkeeper- hand/eye coordination, agility, quickness and vision. We started working with B.J. the Summer of his Sophomore year and by the time he graduated, he was one of the top high school keepers in Southern New Jersey. Take a look at B.J.'s steady improvement over his final three years of high school.

"I wanted to take this opportunity to express my thanks and sincere appreciation regarding the Goalie Training that was performed by Phil Andrews. Phil did an outstanding job not only in representing Goalstopper Academy but also in his preparation and knowledge of the different tactical training sessions. Phil was very engaging, energetic, and really knew how to get the most out of my son."
